Competition Round Up

Junior Waterloo (23rd August)
Just Matthew Gill in this one, where he fell at the first hurdle, being beaten 21-17 by a good player from the other side of the Pennines in Yorkshire, after being in the lead for most of the match

Federation Merit, Blackburn (2nd August)
Two great wins for Mike Daley (21-18 and 21-20) after a Bye in the first round) took Mike through to the quarter finals.  After not having a break, and somewhat exhausted, Mike just went out 21-18 - this was a great performance though against some experienced players  Daniel Heaton narrowly went out 21-18 in his first match.  Liam managed to get in the under 12s (winning 21-10) before being properly placed in the over 12s, where he lost 21-12.  Good performances from the Windmill lads though.

Matthew Gill narrowly went out of the Lancashire Junior Merit, losing by 21-17 against Gavin Love, a Lancashire County player from Shevington.  Matthew led for most of the match and played some great bowls.  However, experience told right at the end and Gavin just ran out winner.  Pictures and video clip to follow.

First Session - 18 April

What a marvelous first session we had this Saturday.  We had a record number of youngsters turning up,  19 in all, with two coming for the first time.  Player of the week was Callum, who did really well as it was his first session, and Joe, the other new starter, also soon got the hang of things pretty quickly.  Thanks to Barry, Paul and Dave from Burscough CC who lent a hand, along with the other 'old hand' Jacky.  See photos below - click on thumbnails to enlarge.

Windmill Triumph at Lancs Junior Merit

Matthew and Tom both played some excellent bowls at the recent Lancashire Junior Merit qualifying tournament, which was played at Coppull Conservative Club on Sunday 5th April.  Tom won his first match, but unfortunately lost his second (although this was to someone who plays for the Lancashire Junior side and who was a lot older).  Matthew did really well to win both his matches and will now feature in the final 16 Merit Final which will be played on 21 June at Winstanley near Wigan.  Click on the thumbnails below to see the photos. Maybe some more of our players should enter next year - having seen the standard it would be worth a go.

Friendly Matches for 2009

We have now met with the Botanic (Churchtown), Formby Legion and Brooke Hotel (Crosby) Bowling Clubs and will be playing friendly matches against these clubs over the coming 2009 season.  More details will be posted when they become available.  Hopefully this will lead to a more structured league in coming years

Bowling Tops

The Club polo shirts are available in a range of sizes and we would encourage children to use these for any matches that are played.  They are good quality stitched tops and are available at only £6. These can be ordered from Premier Sport (Aughton Street, Ormskirk).  Hoodies and sweatshirts (and in fact almost anything you desire) can also all be ordered from Premier Sports with the Club logo on.  Please speak to Ian for details
