A narrow win against a good Stanley team. Brian was on hot form,
returning from Devon obviously relaxed having enjoyed all the exotic sights that
Plymouth had to offer. He swept to the kitty, winning to eight. As it
turned out all hinged on the last match on the green. I'd like to say it
was nerves of steel that enabled the Captain to come through with a valuable
win, but it wasn't because he didn't know what score he needed. However it
proved just enough to take the aggregate by 2 points. Surprisingly Smiler
only achieved 11 points (lowest score of the night), but, according to him, this
was nothing to do with a pint or two with work colleagues beforehand!

Ritchie produced another barnstorming performance to take the kitty, and
joins Smiler at the top of the kitty chart. 'No Mercy' Mercer, Smiler,
Brian and the Miller also produced good wins. Bravest performance,
however, went to Winnie, who braved a downpour to narrowly lose at the death.

This match was a washout in more ways than one. The green was very
large and very heavy which made it difficult for everyone to reach the
block. Just two winners, with Ian taking the kitty. Luuv Makin just
failed to take his match after leading most of the way. Smiler was just
the opposite, as he was getting slaughtered until it was pointed out to him that
his averages may be effected, after which he girded his, not inconsiderable,
loins and started fighting back....unfortunately just a case of too little too
late.

A fine away win on a large and quick running Scarisbrick green. Smiler
almost thought he had secured an even greater lead at the top of the kitty
chart, before both Ian and then Paul top trumped his score - the Miller having a
fine win by 21 points to 5.

With Homer playing away at the cricket, Smiler overcame him at the top of the
kitty chart, and the disappointment of his defeat on Tuesday with a fine
win. Going into the last game the teams were level on aggregate and Crofty
just failed at the death.....however not a bad haul on a tricky green.

Not a bad performance on a much improved Saracens green. Ritchie strode
to a great kitty win, and with 5 winners in total we just missed out on the
aggregate. Claire greatly impressed in her match and perhaps was
unfortunate not to have got even more points on the board.

Another disastrous away defeat at the Punchbowl, as we slipped to the third
away defeat on the trot - it will be nice to return to the Mill next week
......hopefully. The Captain had to withdraw to to damaged bowls, but
there was no stopping Luuv Makin who climaxed the match with an impressive kitty
winning performance, Diane as well coming up with an impressive win. There
were a few close results as well which, if they had been turned into victories
would have changed the points around.

A depleted Windmill side ravaged by holidays and withdrawals came unstuck on
the large and tricky Maghull green. Hero of the day has to go to Homer,
who came at short notice just after the birth of his third son (Sam James - 8lbs
9oz) - mother and baby are doing very well by the way!! Thanks as well to
Bert Patterson and Joe Leahy for both turning up at short notice.

Not a bad result considering the fact that we were initially 2 players
short. Claire bravely stepped into the breach and gave an excellent

to get the kitty but Diane also produced a great performance to win her game.

A damp, wet night at the Windmill but this didn't interfere with Carr's
engine which purred towards a 21-7 kitty win and joins the other kitty winners
on one win each. With a wide squad to chose from the Captain had some
tough choices to make and even ended up dropping himself. With 6 winners
from the first 6 off the green it looked like being a landslide, but the
Scarisbrick team fought back to nick the last 4 - Homer James just being pipped
on the last end after a brave fightback.

A barnstorming performance from Ritchie who took his first Friday night
kitty, with good wins also for 'Goldenbowls' Gill and Smiler (who was trusted
with another first four start and yet again produced the goods). A good
all-round win again for the team which will cement their place in the upper half
of the Division.

Fortunately the green at Burscough was running a bit slower than usual,
although it was still tough going. Homer James preferred the away green on this
occasion and swept to the kitty, winning to 9. Smiler and Ritchie kept
their nerves to win two very tight games. All in all not a bad result.
