A close game at the 'Mill with the home team having 4 winners and 2 'what could have been' 20s, but the aggregate was lost.  Richie had one of those nights where his opponent was never off the block and it was probably this game that split the two teams on the night.  Good wins for Croft Original, Luuv Makin, the Gypsy and Horatio with the kitty going to Mr. Makin.  Honourable mention for Paul 'The Killer' Miller who fought back from 16-6 down to lead 20-19 only to fall at the last.  For a split second the normally gentile Ormskirk air was turned blue as the The Killer vented his bowling fury.  Hell hath no fury like a bowler who makes a complete spanner of a 20-19 lead.

P.S.
Sir,
With reference to the Editor's comments re 'Martha Wainwright' in the write-up of last week's match.  The Windmill Westhead League Bowling correspondent would suggest that the Editor needs to get down with the kids man and should keep abreast of the contemporary music scene instead of sitting at home drinking 20p bottles of Tesco plonk and listening to INXS, 'the Best of''  (which is a single).

(Ed - we have the latest Take That Album - does that count???)

A commendable performance from a slightly understrength Millers against an all-star celebrity-packed Comrades team featuring notable crown-green devotees such as Bon Scott, (dead) lead singer of AC/DC, Glen McGrath, miserly Aussie pace merchant, Martha (Norma?- he's losing me here - Ed) Wainwright, Ma Baker and notorious God-bothering Triple-Jumper Jonathon Edwards.  Those young guns of Luuv Makin, Homer, the Gillmeister and Killer Miller chalked the magical '21' but our victories were narrow ones and this enabled the Comrades to take the aggregate with something to spare.  Performance of the night came from Mr.Gill who bowled superbly to come back and overtake Mo Zahedi.  Unfortunately, this was not enough to take the kitty outright as Homer, who by his own admission played appallingly, also won to 13.  Big ups to Diana and Bert who both came at short notice.

Remember how you felt 21 years ago tonight, when Diego Madonna did the old 'hand of God' business to knock England out of the World cup?  The Millers contingent once again tasted pain on that scale coming unstuck on the treacherous Cricket Club green.  On this occasion it was the 'hand of Glenda' and several others that did the damage.  There were however, four good wins from Sir Geoffrey, the Gillmeister, Gypsy Bert and Clair with the former taking the kitty after uprooting J.Bracken to 4.  Single figure performances for Homer, Croft Original, 'Horatio' Mercer and the Predator meant that the Wigan Road posse was unable to get close to the aggregate.  The defeated Millers were to be heard muttering about 'that bloody hill' long into the night.  A better performance is required on our own manor on Friday night when we entertain the Comrades.

A good solid home win for the Millers with 6 stalwarts of the Wigan Road outfit bringing home the bacon.  Paul 'The Killer' Miller murdered his opponent to six and Sir Geoffrey wasn't 'Larkin' about with a near 'perfick' performance. Good wins also for The Croftmeister, Luuv Makin and Gypsy Bert Traverse.  Sadly Richie was thrown over board by Maxwell and Predator's prey, a Mr. Ferrier, wasn't horsing about either.   The Captain was dropped for arriving back too late from the Test Match, but there's no 'i' in teiam.  Up the Millers

Just as Goldenballs stepped up to the plate for England, 'Goldenbowls' Gill demonstrated that captaincy is no burden to steamroller his in-form opponent on his own green to take the kitty and to top the kitty chart.  A creditable 4 winners on a tricky Stanley green.  Captain Croft had to leave before the start due to his wife's accident, but thanks to Bert Patterson for coming down to earn an extra 13 points for the Millers.

A rip-roaring away performance from the mighty ‘Millers.  The ‘Windy’ boys and girls blew away the opposition with a six-winner demolition-derby job.  Speaking of windy, the legendary Brian ‘Start-the’ Carr was on tremendous form, releasing an incessant volley of ‘air-biscuits’ throughout the evening’s entertainment.  At times he sounded like that French bloke that could fart the Marseillaise: - that’s right Thierry Henry.  Richie, Paul Miller, The Gardner, Smiler, Homer and ‘Gypsy’ Bert Traverse all weighed in with the magical 21.  The Gypsy was asked to ‘pitch up’ at number 8 and showed the flexibility of a true traveller to ease past unlucky Heather (shurely shume mishtake: J.Charnock – Ed).  Commendable scores from Clare and The Croftmeister helped make it an 11-4 mauling.  The kitty wasn’t in doubt much beyond 7.20pm when The Gardner mowed his opponent down, no doubt mentally scarifying him for life (please make it stop – Ed).

A very creditable away performance for the Millers, just going down 8 v 7 on the tricky Skem Park green.  There's a few mysterious bits of land to negotiate, there's some bumps to avoid and just to add to the difficulties, for the second time in as many seasons, bowlers had to negotiate a bottle hurled onto the green by the local headbangers.  Five Millers stroked it out to 21, Di, Richie, The Gardner, Homer and Gillian.  Clare came within 1 point of recording her first competitive victory and it can now only be a matter of time.  The kitty winning performance came from Di who, by all accounts, bowled beautifully to win to 14.  Homer nearly exceeded his remarkable choke of losing from 20-11 earlier in the season, this time being pulled back from 19-4 to just run out 21-18.  Unfortunately the Pike failed to arrive before the captain had chosen the team.  However, I can exclusively reveal the news that the crown green fraternity of West Lancs has been waiting for:- if the Pike makes it on time next week - he plays.  Up the Millers.
